O que tem Esparta que ver com Jerusalém? A construção de um mito helenístico

Abstract

Este estudo parte das referências a Esparta nos livros dos Macabeus, escritos no século II a. C., e propõe uma análise da relação que os textos estabelecem entre a cidade grega e os Judeus nesse período. Depois de discutir os aspectos políticos e ideológicos que subjazem a essa formulação, o autor conclui ser verosímil uma ligação política entre Espartanos e Judeus no século II a. C., no quadro da emergência da hegemonia romana no Mediterrâneo e definida por uma evocação retórica tipicamente helenística, apesar de persistirem as dúvidas no que diz respeito aos documentos citados pelos livros bíblicos.

This study on the references to Sparta in the books of Maccabees, written in the second century b.C., proposes an analysis of the relationship between the Greek city and the Jews, made by the texts in this period. After discussing the political and ideological aspects that underlie this formulation, the author concludes that it is plausible the existence of a political link between Spartans and Jews in the second century b. C., in the context of the emergence of Roman hegemony in the Mediterranean, and defined by a typically Hellenistic rhetorical evocation, although doubts persist regarding the documents quoted by the biblical books.
