A mitificação da História e o Paciecidos de Bartolomeu Pereira SJ

Abstract

O presente estudo toma como objecto uma epopeia novilatina de carácter hagiográfico que tem por tema matéria histórica recente. Além de contextualizar sumariamente a composição da epopeia em causa no ambiente de consciência épica dos séc. XVI e XVII, o estudo evoca as fontes documentais históricas e hagiográficas a que o poeta recorreu e identifica as intenções e os mecanismos de mitificação da história que fazem desta narrativa uma epopeia.

This article focuses on a neo-latin hagiographic epic with recent historic events as its background. Firstly the composition of this epic is framed within the epic mentality of the 16th and 17th centuries; secondly, the intentions and mechanisms of mythification of history that explain the epic nature of this narrative are also analysed. The historic and hagiographic documents that the poet presumably used as a source of information are also mentioned in this study.
