Abstract: The ancient Greeks discovered the ‘rhetoricity’ of language. In other words, they discovered that language is especially useful in the realm of social‑political life, where one citizen can influence his fellow‑ ‑citizens through his speech. ‘Rhetoricity’ means too that language is not well endowed for reproducing and transmitting reality, which once and again escapes the minds of the philosophers, who, nevertheless think with language, as does everyone.]
