Title: Epopeia novilatina e hagiografia: alguns exemplos em Portugal
Authors: Urbano, Carlota Miranda
Issue Date: 2005
Publisher: Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra, Instituto de Estudos Clássicos
Abstract: As an attempt at breaking a new ground in Neolatin poetry studies, the article firstly shows how “hagiography” and the epic genre are related. The complexity and many-sided shape of the hagiographic genre are pointed out. Next, the A. demonstrates how Neolatin epic hagiographic poetry, a branch of the literary movement known as “Humanism”, also became a consistent vehicle of Catholic apologetics. Fínally, the A. introduces three Neolatin poems, written by Portuguese humanists according to the literary canons of the hagiographic epic genre.
