Trilhas geoturísticas e sua importância na conservação do patrimônio geológico: Parque Metropolitano Armando de Holanda Cavalcanti - Cabo de Santo Agostinho/PE (Brasil)

Abstract

The concern to preserve the geological heritage is on the rise, and the number of activities involving this issue is increasing. Geotourism as a tourism‑based on geological and geomorphological features appears in this context. The dissemination and awareness of the importance of the geological monuments contributes significantly to the process of geoconservation. Thus, the definition of trails with interpretive panels illustrating the importance of the geological features, represent a major breakthrough with regard to the dissemination of the geological heritage and inspires its conservation. This paper aims to describe and to georeference some trails that make up the sightseeing tour of the Metropolitan Park Armando de Holanda Cavalcanti, located in the municipality of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, southern coast of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil. In this area, the Cabo granite, with of 102 Ma. age, outcrops in an area of 4km2. It is a marker of late stages of the separation of South America and Africa (Gondwana break‑up), and subsequent formation of the Atlantic Ocean. The region holds great historical and cultural interest, represented by buildings and ruins dating from the sixteenth century. Artifacts that tell about the local history are still found (e.g., old coins, cannon ball), some of them being included in the collection of the Museum of the Brazilian Navy open to visitors. The importance to local and global geological history make the area very interesting from the standpoint of scientific/education tourism, and also the Geotourism, closely related to Geoconservation and Geodiversity.

A preocupação em conservar o patrimônio geológico encontra‑se em ascensão, sendo cada vez mais elevado o número de atividades envolvendo essa temática, e é nesse contexto que surge o Geoturismo, atividade turística de base geológica e geomorfológica. A divulgação e conscientização da importância de monumentos geológicos contribui de forma significativa no processo de geoconservação. Dessa forma, a elaboração de trilhas geoturísticas com placas indicativas e interpretativas ilustrando a importância das feições geológicas, representa um grande avanço na divulgação do patrimônio geológico, além de inspirar a sua conservação. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo descrever e georreferenciar algumas trilhas, que compõem o roteiro turístico do Parque Metropolitano Armando de Holanda Cavalcanti, localizado no município do Cabo de Santo Agostinho, litoral Sul de Pernambuco no nordeste brasileiro. Nessa área aflora o Granito do Cabo, com aproximadamente 102 Ma. Trata‑se de um dos marcadores dos estágios tardios da separação da América do Sul e África (quebra de Gondwana), e consequente formação do Oceano Atlântico. A região comporta grande interesse histórico e cultural, representados por construções e ruínas que datam desde o século xvi. Ainda são encontrados na área artefatos que contam um pouco da história local, e alguns desses objetos fazem parte de acervo do Museu da Marinha Brasileira que se encontra aberto a sociedade civil. A importância para a história geológica local e global torna a área muito interessante do ponto de vista do turismo científico/educacional, e também do Geoturismo, já que este está intimamente relacionado à Geoconservação e a Geodiversidade.
