Considerações introdutórias sobre a noção de doxa no livro II da República

Abstract

This paper presents an attempt of interpreting Republic Book II in the light of Book V, 476d to478e. In this passage, Plato states doxa as something between knowledge and ignorance, as the apprehension of whatever there is between being and not being, reinforcing thus its eminently ambiguous character. Through this paper I present a way of reading the appearance of doxa in the two first Books of the Republic in the sense of stressing this ambiguity. I would like to show how, on the one hand, the notion of truth, built along the dialogue, shows forth only in an explicit tension and opposition with doxa, which appears therefore as its counterpart. On the other hand, I would like to follow some traces presented in the dialogue which may tell us that the very notion of truth, which construction takes place along its six first Books, having the Idea of Good as its climax, does not stop belonging, somehow, to the realm of apprehension of doxa proper

O objetivo deste trabalho é interpretar o Livro II da República à luz da passagem 476d a 478e, presente no Livro V. Ao encarar a doxa como um meio entre conhecimento e ignorância, apreendendo o que se posiciona entre ser e não ser, Platão reforça o seu caráter eminentemente ambíguo. O presente trabalho apresenta um caminho de leitura do diálogo para buscar pensar essa ambigüidade, mostrando como, por um lado, a noção de verdade construída ao longo da obra somente se evidencia em uma tensão ou confronto com a doxa, que aparece assim como sua contrapartida; por outro lado, o diálogo deixa pistas de que a sua própria construção, que se encaminha até a idéia de Bem, marcando‑a como seu ponto culminante, não prescinde, a fim derealizar esse encaminhamento, de pertencer, de algum modo, ao âmbito de apreensão próprio à doxa
