João Gonçalves Chancinho: cónego da Sé de Coimbra e “clericus regis”

Abstract

Partindo de um testamento, cruzado com outras fontes, estudam-se neste artigo as origens familiares e o percurso pessoal de João Gonçalves Chancinho, clérigo da corte de Afonso III, cónego do cabido da Sé de Coimbra e conselheiro régio. Analisam-se, ainda, o seu património, a variedade das suas relações pessoais, a sua condição social e cultural e os livros que possuía, manifestação da sua formação jurídica e eclesiástica.

From a testament crossed with other sources, it is in this paper studied the family backgrounds and the personal life course of João Gonçalves Chancinho, cleric of D. Alfonso III court, canon of the cathedral chapter of Coimbra, and royal advisor. It is also analyzed his heritage, the variety of their personal relationships, their social and cultural condition, and the books he owned, which reveals his legal and ecclesiastical qualifications.
