A "Síntese Leibniziana" da teoria da ciência na segunda metade do séc. XIX: de Leonardo a Antero (1.ª parte)

Abstract

The author puts in evidence the most important features of Leibniz's intluence on the theory of science in the second half of the nineteenth-century, showing how, in the complex historical context of the time, philosophy looked for a "Leibnizian synthesis" of that theory. Furthemore, he shows that the main purpose of such a synthesis implies an attempt at integratig the different domains of the lheory of science, Iargely understood, and of philosophy itself. From this point of view, he explains why, in general, this essay was inconsequent and, in fact, ended in a failure, which represents, significantly and hy contras(, the auspicious heginning of contemporary philosophy. Meanwhile, he suggests the unquestionable originality of Leonardo Coimbra' and Antero de Quental's views concerning lhe "Leibnizian synthesis,'.
