Abstract: Fichte ' s Nationalism and the Transformation of his `Theory of Science' The evolution of Fichte's political thought begins with a radically cosmopolitic and universalistic ideal of humanity, and leads to the attribution of a decisive importante to the historically particular forms of German language and nation. It seems that the ideal of humanity of the 1790's is replaced, after 1805 or 1806 by a new nationalistic ideal. This paper tries to show that this political evolution is supported by the evolution of Fichte's Theory of Science (Wissenschaftslehre) after 1805, an by his theory of history, of the same year. With the new key concept of "existente", Fichte claims that the universality of science can only be granted by it's renewal under different forms of universality, forms which are allways factual and particular.
