A propósito de uma obra recente sobre o período tardo-antigo e medieval em Conímbriga

Abstract

A série “Archaeological Studies on Late Antiquity and Early Medieval Europe” publicou recentemente uma obra de conjunto, editada por J. L. Quiroga, sobre “Conimbriga Tardo-antiga y medieval”, onde se propõe uma reinterpretação global da necrópole e da chamada basílica paleo-cristã de Conimbriga. Os autores fazem uma análise crítica da obra, conjugando os novos dados apresentados, o conhecimento sobre o sítio que não é vertido na obra e as teorias, novas e tradicionais, sobre o monumento.

The series “Archaeological Studies on Late Antiquity and Early Medieval Europe” recently published a book, edited by J. L. Quiroga, about “Conimbriga Tardo-antiga y medieval” [Late-antique and medieval Conimbriga”, where a new interpretation of the necropolis and of the so-called palaeo-christrian basilica of Conimbriga is proposed. The authors proceed to a critical analysis of the work, bringing together the newly published data, the knowledge about the site that is not brought in to the discussion by the book and the theories, both new and old, about the monument.
