Abstract: Plutarch asserts that lawgivers must face up to many difficulties. In fact, all the historical characters to whom he ascribes the task of organizing or reorganizing a specific society have paid a high price. They were defamed, attacked, killed, their houses destroyed, etc. These are the risks run by those who dare to establish standards of behavior for their fellow citizens.
