A coluna e o vulto: reflexões sobre o habitar na Antiguidade

Abstract

The character of fixity, permanence and soundness of the column, in reference to the Greek term hístēmi, is fundamental to the analogies made between body and architecture in ancient Greece. The reflection upon it improves the understanding of the exchanges in meaning brought about by the admission of high “foreign columns” in the public spaces of Late Republican and Early Imperial Rome, defining semantic recurrences that permeate the so called classical tradition in Architecture.

O caráter de fixidez, permanência e firmeza da coluna, em remissão ao termo grego hístēmi, é basilar para as analogias estabelecidas entre corpo e arquitetura na Grécia antiga. Considerando‑‑o, melhor se compreende as permutas de significado com o ingresso de altas “colunas estrangeiras” nos espaços públicos da Roma tardo‑‑republicana e protoimperial, a demarcar recorrências semânticas que perpassam a chamada tradição clássica da arquitetura.
