Ordem, gêneros e espaços: a mulher e o amor, de Alberti a Castiglione

Abstract

Through the reminder of the numerous books written by Leon Battista Alberti about the subject of love and woman, this presentation intends to underline their rich diversity and to indicate some ways by which we can inquire about their reception, particularly in comparison to the dialogues about love, which were about to multiply during the 16th Century. Leon Battista Alberti’s amatoria give an accurate image of the wide questioning generated in the Humanist’s mind by the conflict between Eros and culture and show the answers he gave according to the different perspectives. Alberti has always tried to master the disorder spread in the universe by woman and love: either by expelling them from this space, or by integrating the woman, properly educated, into the familial organization. All these texts show Leon Battista Alberti’s taste for experimentation as well as his genius concerning innovation. While being often a part of established literary genres and traditions – dialogues, monologues, poems, in Latin or in Vulgar ‑, this part of his production is about to leave its mark on Italian cultural evolution in Vulgar.

Para falar da mulher e do amor, Alberti lança mão dos mais diversos gêneros: prosa e poesia, diálogo e monólogo, epístola e romance, fábula ou apólogo e conversa informal despretensiosa… ele recorre ao latim e ao volgare, dá voz a deuses e homens, sem contar as mulheres; canta o amor em suas elegias, mas traça logo adiante o retrato de parceiras ásperas e infiéis, de amantes desdenhosas ou, ao contrário, versadas na arte do amor e apaixonadas, e, por fim, põe em cena nos livros De Familia uma esposa exemplar, devidamente educada por seu marido. Seus escritos são em parte tributários de ideias já assentadas há muito tempo, mas, como acontece amiúde com Alberti, não deixam de inaugurar outras novas. Logo, não é surpreendente que notáveis estudos tenham sido, em alguns casos há muitos anos atrás, consagrados à análise de seus (pseudo‑) Amatoria. A presente contribuição revisita, sob esta perspetiva, o conjunto da obra literária do grande humanista buscando salientar a complexidade que a envolve, assim como seus prováveis desdobramentos e, portanto, de certa forma, sua fortuna pouco conhecida e subterrânea.
