A imprensa católica durante o Estado Novo: o caso da Voz do Trabalho (1953-1974)

Abstract

O presente artigo tem como objectivo o estudo da Voz do Trabalho, mensário da Liga Operáiria Católica, desde o início da sua publicação, em 1953, até ao 25 de Abril de 1974. Nele se faz a análise da evolução do jornal à luz dos acontecimentos político-religiosos que marcaram Portugal. De agente de propaganda social da hierarquia católica e do poder, passou a seu opositor, a partir da década de 60, devido à influência dos ensinamentos do Concílio Vaticano II. As temáticas de cariz social misturaram-se, daí em diante, com as de índole política: a guerra colonial, o respeito pelos direitos humanos, entre outras.

Cet article a pour objet l'étude du journal Voz do Trabalho, mensuel de la Ligue Ouvrière Catholique, depuis le début de sa publication, en 1953, jusqu'au 25 avril 1974. II analyse l'évolution du journal à la lumière des événements politico-religieux quii marquèrent Portugal. D'gent de propagande la hiérarchie catholique et du pouvoir, ii devint son adversaire, à partir des années 60, dû à l'influence des enseignements du II Concile Vatican. Les articles de caractère social se mélangèrent, dès lors, avec ceux de nature politique: la guerre coloniale, le respect des droirs de l'homme, entre autres.

The purpose of this paper is study Voz do Trabalho, monthly of Labouring Catholic League, since the beginning of its publication, in 1953, until 25 of April 1974. It makes the analysis of the evolution of the periodical considering the politician-religious events that had marked Portugal. From agent of social propaganda of the hierarchy catholic and power, it passed to its opponent, since the decade of 60s, due to the influence of the teachings of II Vatican Council. The thematic of social aspects had joined, from there on, with the ones of political nature: the colonial war, the respect for the human rights, and so on.
