História e Historiografia em Júlio Dantas

Abstract

Júlio Dantas (1876-1962) desempenhou um papel fulcral na organização das Comemorações Centenárias de 1940, patrocinadas pelo Estado Novo, sob a égide de Oliveira Salazar e do Secretariado Nacional da Propaganda (S.P.N.) de António Ferro. As funções desempenhadas, como Presidente da Comissão Executiva e de Presidente do Congresso do Mundo Português, levaram-no a realizar uma reflexão sobre a história. No presente artigo analisamos as suas concepções nesta área, tendo em consideração o seu posicionamento face às principais correntes historiográficas da época.

Júlio Dantas (1876-1962) a joué un rôle fondamental dans l’organisation des célébrations centenaires de 1940, financés par l’État Nouveau, sous l’égide d’Oliveira Salazar et du Secrétariat National de la Propagande (S.P.N.) d’António Ferro. Ses fonctions de Président de la Commission Exécutive et de Président du Congrès du Monde Portugais l’ont amené à une réflexion sur l’histoire. Dans cet article nous analysons ses conceptions dans ce domaine, en tenant en compte son positionnement vis-à-vis les principaux courants historiographiques de l’époque.

Júlio Dantas (1876-1962) played an essential part in organising the 1940 Centennial Commemorations, sponsored by the New State, under the auspices of Oliveira Salazar and the National Propaganda Secretariat (S.P.N.) lead by António Ferro. The tasks he executed as the President of the Executive Committee and the Chairman of the Congress on the Portuguese World, made him think about history. This paper analyses his views on this matter, and his attitude towards the main historiographic currents at the time.
