The present paper derives from the research project: The clinical power of the memories of madness, the empirical field of which is composed of the aquis of the Archives of the São Pedro Psychiatric Hospital Creativity Workshop, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. This aquis includes approximately 100 000 valuable works, collected since 1990 and produced by patients submitted to long-term hospitalisation. We intend to study the forms of writing about a life, linking features of Michel Foucault and Friedrich Nietzsche’s views on the concept of history and the creative and conceptual power of archival research. The paper tackles the biography of one the artists in this aquis.eng
