Educação física e desportiva na década de 1920: da educação integral à representação nacional: o exemplo do futebol

Abstract

Esta investigação pretende aferir de que forma a educação física e desportiva era tida em consideração dentro da dimensão da educação integral e enquanto fator de representação territorial. Ter-se-á, por base, o discurso da imprensa desportiva no final da década de 1920. No final dos anos 20 e particularmente em 1928 – ano em que se realizaram os Jogos Olímpicos de Amesterdão – a educação física e a sua boa prática surgia como uma preocupação da imprensa desportiva. Nas páginas do jornal Os Sports – periódico desportivo de maior implantação nacional – defendia-se que a propaganda da educação física e desportiva seria urgente em Portugal e educava-se para uma cultura do corpo que melhoraria todas as vertentes da vida. Neste período, a imprensa refletia um discurso que associava a educação física a uma educação integral. Existia, deste modo, uma valorização da educação física enquanto contributo para uma educação plena, educação essa que concorreria, simultaneamente, para a saudável convivência cívica, para o desenvolvimento do país, e para a defesa e boa representação da nação.

Cette recherche vise à déterminer comment l'éducation physique et sportive était prise en compte dans la dimension de l'éducation intégrale et en tant que facteur de représentation territoriale. Cette recherche est basée sur le discours des médias sportifs à la fin des années 1920. À la fin des années 20 et en particulier en 1928 - l'année des Jeux olympiques à Amsterdam - l'éducation physique et sa bonne pratique devenaient une préoccupation de la presse sportive. Les pages du journal Os Sports – le périodique sportif de plus grand déploiement national – défendaient que la propagande du sport et de l'éducation physique était urgente au Portugal, une éducation de la culture du corps pour améliorer tous les aspects de la vie étant absolument nécessaire. Dans cette période, la presse reflétait un discours qui combinait l'éducation physique à une éducation inté-grale. Il y avait donc une appréciation de l'éducation physique en tant que contribution à une éducation intégrale, une éducation qui contribuerait, simultanément, à la coexistence civique en bonne santé, au développement du pays et à la défense et à la bonne représentation de la nation.

This research seeks to assay in what way physical and sport education was considered within the context of the person's overall education and as the basis for territorial representation. It is based on the narrative of sport media in the late 1920s. Towards the end of the 1920s and particularly in 1928 – the year of the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam – sport media began focusing on physical education and the good practice thereof. Os Sports – the sports periodical with the highest circulation in the country – supported the urgent need to promote physical and sport education in Portugal and people were educated on keeping a healthy body for improving all aspects of life. In this period, the narratives of the press linked physical education with the overall education of the person. Physical education was, thus, valued for its contribution to overall education, which in turn was conducive to healthy civic coexistence, the development of the country, its defence and better representation.
