Notas sobre a produção, a circulação e a leitura do Lunário Perpétuo de Jerônimo Cortez entre Portugal e o Brasil

Abstract

O presente artigo traz elementos sobre a produção, a circulação e a leitura de edições portuguesas do Lunário Perpétuo, de Jerônimo Cortez no Brasil. Originalmente hispânico, datado do fim do século XVI, o livro conheceu diversas traduções portuguesas que circularam nos sertões brasileiros desde o século XVIII. Inserido no gênero almanaque, o Lunário Perpétuo apresentou uma longa trajetória, veiculando traços da herança portuguesa no Brasil até, pelo menos, meados do século passado. Reunindo um calendário de natureza astrológica e religiosa, ao qual se agregavam diversas seções que acenavam para a resolução das questões da vida prática, o livro propagou certas tradições que incluíam a cultura oral, o respeito a ancianidades e o apreço ao sagrado, ao mesmo tempo em que esteve aberto a múltiplas leituras, realizadas ao sabor das circunstâncias, dos espaços e dos tempos nos quais circulou.

This present article brings elements about the production, the circulation and the reading of portuguese editions of Lunário Perpétuo, by Jerônimo Cortez in Brazil. Originally hispanic, dated from the end of the sixteenth century, the book met several portuguese traditions that circulated in brazilian « sertões » since the eighteenth century. Inserted in the genre almanac, Lunário Perpétuo presented a long journey, conveying features of the portuguese heritage in Brazil to, at least, mid last century. Gathering a calendar of astrologic and religious nature, to wich was aggregated many sections that pointed to the resolution of practical life questions, the book disseminated certain traditions that included the oral culture, the respect to old ages and the esteem for the sacred, at the same time it was open to multiples readings, performed to the flavor of the circumstances, spaces and the time in wich it circulated.
