“A Mordedura do Real”: Gabriel Marcel e o gesto transcendental

Abstract

The intention here consists in exploring one of the most original metaphors coined by Gabriel Marcel regarding the ultimate statute of ontology: “the real bite”. In the sight of the philosopher – criticising the metaphysical tradition and science featuring “being” and “real” as the title for a mere “transcendent curiosity” – ontology is about awakening the “spirit of restlessness” moved by a special need: the “appetite of being”. In this perspective, the true transcendental gesture is the one who gets “drunk” in the original source of the real as an experience mysteriously inexhaustible and appetizing.

A intenção, aqui, consiste em explorar uma das mais originais metáforas cunhadas por Gabriel Marcel a propósito do estatuto último da ontologia: “a mordedura do real”. Aos olhos do filósofo – para além da tradição metafísica e da ciência que caracteriza o “ser” e o “real” a título, apenas, de uma mera “curiosidade transcendente” – trata‑se de despertar o “espírito de inquietude” movido por uma necessidade especial: o “apetite do ser”. Nessa perspectiva, o verdadeiro gesto transcendental é aquele que se “embebeda” na fonte originária do real como uma experiência, misteriosamente, inesgotável e apetecível.
