dc.description.abstract | Important and symbolic space of the city, border between intra and extra moenia, the walls also host women. Like from a big window, Helen, Hecuba, Andromache, Cassandra, Deidamia, Medea, Scilla scrutinize husbands, sons, brothers and impossible lovers, men in distress and in position of enemies, because they are outside the walls. Homer’s exemplary female teichoscopiai all have left significant traces in the teichoscopia of Antigone in Euripides’ Phoenicians (and then in the Thebaid of Statius) but especially that of Cassandra who - in the last book of the Iliad - observed from the walls the “good brother” now dead. In the same way, Antigone desires to see the “brother not so bad” destined to die. | eng |
| por |
