Abstract: In March of 1939 Salvador Espriu wrote his Antigone in which the heroine had a firm ideological commitment. In this play Espriu advocates for overcoming the conflict that leads to Civil War. The play was constantly revised by Espriu himself: The second edition was published in 1969. Traditionally this second edition is considered as Espriu’s Antigone, neverthless the contrast between the first edition and the second edition might suggest the aim of Espriu at the moment of writing.
