Planta geológica-geotécnica da fundação da barragem de Alqueva

Abstract

This paper includes a brief description of the regional geological setting of the Alqueva dam site and a synthesis of the main geological and geotechnical characteristics of Alqueva’s dam site, based on the data obtained from field observations, geological mapping and “in situ” and laboratory tests, performed during the dam’s design phase. The left embankment of the dam’s foundation is constituted by altered and fractured phyllites, intersected by numerous faults. At the right embankment and valley bottom occur slightly altered mafic metavolcanic rocks (greenschists), intersected by some faults. The geological and geotechnical mapping of the dam’s foundation gave the basic elements that allowed the verification of its adequateness to the dam’s design and also for the design of foundation superficial reinforcement elements and for the dam's foundation treatment by grouting design.

É efectuado um breve enquadramento que inclui um resumo das características geológicas da região onde se insere a barragem de Alqueva e uma síntese das principais características geológicas e geotécnicas do local da barragem, efectuada a partir da informação obtida no decurso dos levantamentos geológicos, ensaios “in situ” e laboratoriais, realizados durante a fase de Projecto. Na margem esquerda, a fundação é constituída por filitos medianamente alterados, muito fracturados e cortados por numerosas falhas. Na margem direita e fundo do vale ocorrem rochas metavulcânicas básicas (xistos verdes), geralmente pouco alteradas e pouco fracturadas, intersectadas por algumas falhas. A caracterização geológica-geotécnica efectuada durante a fase de construção da barragem permitiu verificar a adequabili- dade das características mecânicas da fundação às estruturas a construir e forneceu a informação de base para a elaboração do projecto de elementos de reforço na fundação e, ainda, para o projecto de tratamento das fundações através de injecções de calda de cimento.
