O Livro Preto da Sé de Coimbra: estudo do cartulário

Abstract

Este artigo tem como objecto o Livro Preto, o conhecido cartulário da Sé de Coimbra elaborado no século XII, a mando do bispo D. Miguel Salomão (1162-1176), que é analisado do ponto de vista codicológico e quanto à estruturação do manuscrito, aos copistas que lhe deram forma, e à fidelidade das transcrições que inclui, permitindo assim perceber melhor as razões por que foi executado e de que modo se trabalhava no scriptorium undecentista daquela catedral.

This paper focuses on the Black Book, the famous cartulary of Coimbra cathedral, founded in the 12th century on the orders of bishop D. Miguel Salomão (1162-1176). This book is analysed from the perspective of codicology and of its structure, the copyists that shaped it and the exactness of its reproductions, thus enabling us to understand better the reasons which lead to its implementation and the type of work that was carried out in the 12th century scriptorium of this cathedral.
