Movimentos de massa e outras ocorrências danosas: o caso do centro histórico de Vila Nova de Gaia

Abstract

The Old Vila Nova de Gaia Historical Centre is a true living document of the life conditions and construction techniques of ancient generations, representative of cultural values, including historical, architectural, urban or just emotional that by constituting a collective memory, cannot be lost by negligence or carelessness. This work responds to a desire to contribute to the preservation of the Historical Centre, that suffers due to the geomorphological manifestations, given the morphology of the area concerned and the intervention that every day takes place in this territory whether in heritage – in the recovery of the built heritage - whether in building new homes or new pathways, including the Circular of the Historical Centre, the hillside, waterproofing large areas by changing underground water circulation and changing the natural flow and the artificial flow, damaging infrastructure, knocking down retaining walls, causing casualties and affecting the well-being of the population.

O Centro Histórico Antigo de Vila Nova de Gaia é um verdadeiro documento vivo das condições de vida e das técnicas de construção de gerações ancestrais representativo de valores culturais, nomeadamente históricos, arquitetónicos, urbanísticas ou simplesmente afetivos que, por constituírem uma memória coletiva, não se podem perder por incúria ou desleixo. Assim, este trabalho responde a um desejo de contribuir para a preservação do Centro Histórico, que sofre devido às manifestações geomorfológicas, atendendo à morfologia da área em causa e à intervenção que todos os dias acontece neste território quer pela renovação nos arruamentos, quer no património, tanto na recuperação do edificado, como na construção de novas habitações ou a construção de novas vias, nomeadamente a Circular do Centro Histórico, a meia encosta, impermeabilizando grandes áreas, alterando circulação subterrânea da água e alterando o escoamento natural e o escoamento artificial, danificando infraestruturas, derrubando muros de suporte, causando vítimas e afetando o bem-estar das populações.
