Velhas, novas e novíssimas narrativas do mundo urbano

Abstract

The ongoing urban transformation has no translation in the field of Sociology as an academic discipline. This is still very much a field of study contigent on the premises of the typical mid-century xix Western industrial city. The large cities of the global South remain by and large absent from conventional sociological analysis and the same applies, as a result, to the lives of the millions of humans who inhabit them. An epistemic review of urban knowledge is required to provide alternatives to the current uneven and deeply fractured urban world.

As profundas e recentes transformações urbanas ocorridas não têm tradução no plano da sociologia enquanto disciplina académica. Esta continua muito sujeita ao paradigma resultante da análise das grandes cidades industriais de meados do séc. xix europeu e norte-americano. As grandes metrópoles do Sul global, permanecem, grosso modo, ausentes da análise sociológica convencional e, em resultado, os milhões de seres humanos que as habitam. É necessária uma revisão epistémica do conhecimento urbano que dê conta e forneça alternativas para a compreensão deste mundo urbano profundamente fraturado e desigual.
