Narrar e silenciar o quotidiano: a correspondência de Gabriella Asinari di San Marzano Sousa Coutinho (1789 – 1821)

Abstract

Neste estudo analisam-se aspetos relevantes da vida quotidiana e alguns episódios da história familiar de Gabriella Asinari di San Marzano que casou, em Turim, no ano de 1789, com o embaixador português D. Rodrigo de Sousa Coutinho. D. Gabriella era uma mulher esclarecida e sensível, descendente de uma das melhores famílias aristocráticas do Piemonte e desempenhou também um papel de primeiro plano no seu círculo familiar e na esfera social e política, tanto no Piemonte como em Portugal, na transição do século XVIII para do século XIX. Depois da Revolução Francesa e das transformações políticas que abalaram a Europa, as suas cartas revelam informações circunstanciais e importantes reflexões críticas sobre a atualidade política.

In this study we analyze relevant aspects of everyday life and some episodes of family history of Gabriella Asinari di San Marzano who married in Turin in 1789, with the Portuguese Ambassador, Dom Rodrigo de Sousa Coutinho. D. Gabriella was an enlightened and sensitive woman, a descendant of one of the best aristocratic families of Piedmont and she also played an important role in their family circle and in the social and political sphere, both in Piedmont and Portugal, in the transition from the eighteenth century to century XIX. After the French Revolution and the political changes that have shaken Europe, her letters reveal circumstantial information and important critical reflections on current political events.
