The young Alcibiades has all attributes that allowed one to expect him to become a brillant politician and to lead Athens into political stability and to a strong position in the war. Socrates perceives in Alcibiades the seeds of qualities that can lead him to the Philosophy and to the Good. Nevertheless Socrates’s influence on him is eroded by the influence of adulators who encouraged Alcibiades’s vanity, ambition and inclination toward facile self-dramatization.. The numerous scandals to which he was connected provoked people’s attraction and fear, so that Alcibiades fled to Sparta. As an inconstant politician, and after new scandals in Sparta, Alcibiades went to Persia and thereafter will be received back again at Athens and again expelled from Athens. The way that Plutarch conceives his biographical narrative converts Alcibiades into an image of his polis in time of crisis.eng
