I “moti” della meccanica meravigliosa: ipotesi sul De Arbitriis Mirabilibus

Abstract

Starting from the circulation and the tradition of the Pneumatikà by Philo of Byzantium, the article considers various versions of the third chapter of the work, trying to explain the meaning and origin of the De Arbitriis Mirabilibus, title of the “unknown” work (to which the author refers) and to be understood in the context of the wonderful mechanics and the theory of vacuum (or “movements” of atoms).

Partendo dalla circolazione e dalla tradizione dell’opera degli Pneumatikà di Filone di Bisanzio, l’articolo prende in considerazione varie versioni del terzo capitolo dell’opera, tentando di spiegare il senso e l’origine del De Arbitriis Mirabilibus, titolo di un’opera “sconosciuta” (a cui lo stesso autore rimanda) e da intendere nel contesto della meccanica meravigliosa e della teoria del vuoto (o dei “moti” degli atomi).
