The fragment 189 K.-A. of Antiphanes, which comes from his comedy Poíēsis, is the first that Athenaeus of Naucratis conveys in his work Deipnosophistai (6. 222a-223a). It has been studied on numerous occasions for its significant value as a testimony to the characteristics of post-classical tragedy, comparing it to comedy. The purpose of our study is to analyse the various components of this fragment, in order to expose and explain the general characteristics of post-Euripides tragedy, emphasizing Antiphanes’ criticism. We also aim to highlight the value of this fragment, in terms of literary criticism within Comedy.eng
