The relation between military power and private economy tends to invert the Renaissance model of sovereignty. The industrial complex aims not only at national markets, but also at the global market. The complexity of technological warfare leads armies to outsource to private companies in the areas of information, counselling, training and, finally, war enterprises. The latter take on, with legal cover, the tasks of mercenaries. The arms market grows, the inclusion of weapons of mass destruction in this market is near at hand, and illegal operations and corruption become worse. The casualties of these enterprises are not part of the statistics.
