Governação pombalina e luzes nos trópicos: entre polêmicas e interpretações: alguns aspectos do período pombalino

Abstract

Trata-se, inicialmente, de investigar as relações entre historiografia e memória tendo como objeto de análise a história da história do período pombalino. Começamos pela passagem das polêmicas às interpretações, associando biografia e história. A seguir analisamos algumas das principais publicações dos anos 80, associadas ao II Centenário da morte de Pombal. Prosseguindo, focalizamos as tendências mais recentes, tendo em vista a fragmentação de temas e abordagens historiográficas. A II Parte do artigo focaliza alguns temas específicos à época pombalina, tais como "a sombra de Methuen", as relações entre o Iluminismo pombalino e a produção cultural, as reformas pombalinas no âmbito da historia político-administrativa da América portuguesa, e, finalmente, "a face brasileira do período pombalino".

The article initially addresses the relationships between historiography and memory having the history of the history of the Pombaline period as object of analysis. It starts by moving from the controversies to the interpretations, associating biography and history. Next, it analyses some of the main publications of the 1980s, associated to the 2nd Centenary of Pombal7 s death. Subsequently, it focuses on the most recent trends, keeping in mind the fragmentation of historiographical topics and approaches. The second part of the article focuses on some topics specific to the Pombaline period, such as "Methuen's shadow", the relationship between the Pombaline Enlightenment and cultural production, the Pombaline reforms in the context of the political-administrative history of Portuguese America and, finally, "the Brazilian side of the Pombaline period".
