The Revolution in Portugal and Salazars's Regime in the Romanian press and publications

Abstract

Este artigo discute a informação existente sobre a revolução em Portugal e o regime de Salazar na imprensa e nas publicações da Roménia. Dá-se particular relevância aos principais títulos da imprensa de Bucareste e da parte ocidental da Roménia entre 1925 e 1944. A informação, contudo, é escassa e incompleta, por um lado, devido à distância geográfica, por outro, devido ao regime monárquico vigente na Roménia. Quanto a outro tipo de publicações, só a partir de 1935 se tornam disponíveis. A intensificação das relações diplomáticas entre os dois estados e a presença de chefes de missão em Lisboa, bem como de personalidades romenas ligadas à cultura, vieram alterar substancialmente os dados da questão.

The article refers to the presence of existing information in the publications and press in Romania regarding the revolution in Portugal and Salazar's regime. Importance is primarily given to the central press in Bucharest and the Western part of Romania between 1925 and 1944. There is scarce and incomplete information in the press, on the one hand because of the geographical distance, and on the other hand, due to the political regime in Romania, the monarchy. The publications, however, weren't available until 1935. The intensification of the diplomatic relations between the two states and the presence of chiefs of mission in Lisbon as well as Romanian personalities in the area of culture substantially altered this situation.
