O Portugal dos "Acácios": o conselheiro do constitucionalismo monárquico

Imortalizado por Eça escritor, o Conselheiro permanece, no plano representacional, como sinónimo de seriedade balofa e de mediocridade. A antítese do burguês numa acepção sociológica. Corresponderá a imagem criada a uma alusão sobre as (potenciais) indefinições identitárias da burguesia nacional ou a um mero artifício artístico? Afinal, o que era ser Conselheiro, na sociedade do Constitucionalismo Monárquico (1834-1910)?

Once immortalized by the writer Eça de Queirós, the Counsellor remains, at the representational level, a synonym for hollow gravity and mediocrity, the antithesis of the bourgeois in a sociological sense. Is the image created by Queirós an allusion to the (potential) identity vagueness of the Portuguese bourgeoisie, or is it just a literary gimmick? After all, what did it mean to be a counsellor in these times of Monarchical Constitutionalism (1834-1910)?
