A religião civil do Estado-Nação: os casos dos EUA e da França

Abstract

Parte-se deste pressuposto: se existiu uma invasão teológica nas teorías modernas da soberania, o contrário também foi verdadeiro. Esta correlação está bem presente nas formas de legitimação e de reprodução do contrato social e podem ser exemplarmente ilustradas pelas religiões civis que os novos Estados-Nação, nele fundamentados, não deixaram de cultivar, como os casos dos Estados Unidos da América e da França, apesar das suas diversidades, revelam.

Departing from this presupposition: if a theological invasion of modem theories of sovereignty existed, the opposite presupposition is also true. This correlation is patent in the forms of legitimacy and the reproduction of the social contract and can be well illustrated by the civil religions that the new Nation-States-on which they were founded- never ceased to cultivate as the specific cases of the United States and France, despite their differences, reveal.
