Abstract

The work of the Spanish-Argentinean playwright Rodrigo García is a continuous reflection on the contemporary socio-political situation, as was Greek tragedy. His dramaturgy revolves around the emptiness, isolation and violence that the human being is subjected to in current consumer society. In Agamenón, these themes are represented by a father who, after shopping at the supermarket, takes his family to a Kentucky Fried Chicken with the aim of explaining what Tragedy is. The myth of Agamemnon fits perfectly with the objective of the author: to offer us a definition of the tragedy of our time.

La obra del dramaturgo hispano-argentino Rodrigo García es una continua reflexión sobre la situación sociopolítica contemporánea, tal como lo era la propia tragedia griega. Su dramaturgia gira en torno al vacío, aislamiento y violencia a los que se ve sometido el ser humano en la actual sociedad de consumo. En Agamenón, estos temas se vertebran en torno a un padre que, después de hacer la compra en el supermercado, lleva a su familia a un Kentucky Fried Chicken con la intención de explicarle qué es la Tragedia. El mito de Agamenón se adecua perfectamente al objetivo de nuestro autor: ofrecernos una definición de la tragedia de nuestros días.
