La terra nelle formule di giuramento, maledizione e invocazione della Grecia arcaica: un’interpretazione antropologica

Abstract

The scholarship about specific ritual phrases of Oath, Curse and Invocation, has focused on their general structure. The aim of this paper is to examine specifically – in Archaic Age, but even in later texts – the centrality and the functionality of both the invocation and the physical contact with Gaea, considered as a primary and omnipresent entity, a tough and necessary basis and support of the perceivable reality, and in the end custodian of the lower world and of the definition and fulfillment of Justice in all its forms.

Gli studi che si sono occupati delle formule di giuramento, maledizione e invocazione, si sono soffermati principalmente sulla struttura generale; il presente studio vuole esaminare in modo specifico – per l’età arcaica, ma usando anche testi di età successiva- la centralità e la funzionalità dell’invocazione e del contatto fisico con Gaia, considerata non solo come entità primaria onnipresente, ma come solida, necessaria base e sostegno della realtà sensibile, custode tanto del mondo infero quanto della definizione e della realizzazione stessa della Giustizia in tutte le sue forme.
