In the Roman villa in Noheda there are many structures that have been excavated, but the most distinguished is the so-called Sala Triabsidada, with its impressive dimensions (290.64 m²) and its complex archeological articulation, to which one can add its carefully crafted decoration, composed of extraordinary figurative mosaics, a skirting board made out of imported marble, attractive painted murals, and exceptional sculptures throughout the room. The Roman mosaic contains a multitude of figures – some life-size – in scenic groups, distributed in six independent, but interrelated, rectangular bands. Its originality is exemplified through the combination of themes, with mythical allegories, allusions to literary and theatrical genres, and representations of diverse ludi. It is exactly in these pieces where we can see the images of boxers and athletes, at various times of the competition, which are addressed in this article.eng
