Batalha de La Lys: um relato pessoal

Abstract

Este texto traz-nos a voz de um antigo comba- tente da I Grande Guerra, tal como se expressa no relatório que elaborou sobre esse acontecimento profundamente traumatizante que foi o combate do Lys de 9 de Abril de 1918. É um relato de um jovem oficial de artilharia que viveu nesse dia uma dura experiência no campo de batalha e que dela nos deixou o seu testemunho. Muitas narrativas desse dia são já conhecidas, mas esta, tal como cada uma delas, tem a marca da sua individualidade. E com as pequenas memórias também se tecem os fios da memória histórica.

This paper echoes the voice of a Portuguese WWI soldier, as he reports to his superiors the chain of events that he witnessed during the deeply traumatic battle of Armentières (April 9th, 1918). This account of a young artillery officer who experienced a hard day at the battlefield adds to other already known accounts of the same battle, each one of them shaped by the way they experienced it, their different individual perspectives, distinct life stories, small memories that weave the threads of History.
