A biblioteca da universidade: os principais desafios

Abstract

Faced with the need to improve its performance, the Library of the University of Coimbra has been focusing its energies on technological reconversion. Without questioning the importance of this continuous challenge, this paper defends the necessity of combining the technological updating with the primordial mission of the Library and with some new challenges that have arisen in recent times. The latter are particularly demanding and result from the changes that have been taking place at the University itself, involving behaviors and values.

Confrontada com a necessidade de melhorar o seu funcionamento, a Biblioteca da Universidade vem centrando as suas energias na reconversão tecnológica. Sem questionar a importância desse desafio contínuo, defende‑se a necessidade de o conjugar com as missões primordiais e ainda com alguns desafios que vêm surgindo nos tempos mais recentes. Estes últimos desafios revelam‑se particularmente exigentes e resultam das mudanças que se vêm operando na própria Universidade, envolvendo comportamentos e valores.
