Abstract: The present paper is formed of three parts. In the first one I try to show in an abridged manner, the historical facts which made Ockham take that firm anti-papal position in defence of the Franciscan ideal of the ‘Evangelical Poverty’, and also his thought concerning the independence of the Imperial/secular power from the Papacy. In the second part I selected a series of texts written by Ockham and translated into Portuguese, in which the «Princeps Nominalium», shows us his view in relation to* the Imperial/secular power. In the third part I endeavour to analise each argument defended by the «Venerabilis Inceptor», trying to make them clear and to show the importance in relation to the central subject of my research.
