Munificencia pública en la provincia Lusitania: una síntesis de su desarrollo entre los siglos I y IV d. C

Abstract

El fenómeno de la munificencia en la provincia romana de Lusitania a partir de los testimonios epigráficos. Se repasan las principales motivaciones que movieron a los munificentes a realizar donaciones en beneficio de su comunidad (orgullo cívico; deseo de celebritas, gloria y honores; y gratitud para con la comunidad de origen) y se estudian de forma sintética los diferentes actos munificentes atestiguados, agrupándolos en función de su objeto (donaciones de opera publica; auxilios a la annona; y organización de epula, sportulae y ludi). Finalmente se procede a una elaboración del perfil del munificente de Lusitania y al planteamiento de una serie de conclusiones sobre los parámetros cronológicos y geográficos de dicho fenómeno, comparándolo con su desarrollo en otras provincias del Imperio, y en particular en las otras provincias de Hispania.

The following article studies the munificent behaviour in roman province of Lusitania using the epigraphical information. In this article we study the main motivations that munificent people had to donate publics gifts for the benefit of their communities (civic pride; celebritas, gloria and honores desire; and gratitude for the community in which they were born) and we study also, in a summarized form, the sort of munificent donations for which we have epigraphical documentation, bringing them together for their object {opera publica's donations; annona's help; and epula's, sportulae's and ludi's celebrations). Finally, we describe the main features of the Lusitania's munificent and reflect on the cronology and geography of this behaviour, comparing his features with the features that the munificent behaivour has in other Roman Empire provinces, particularly in Hispania's provinces.
