A necrópole de Santo André

Abstract

O presente artigo é o relatório da escavação de uma necrópole romana de incineração da segunda metade do século I e dos inícios do II d.C. escavada na Herdade de Santo André, concelho de Montargil. Na primeira parte, João Rosa Viegas apresenta a metodologia seguida na escavação e elabora uma tipología dos enterramentos. Na segunda parte, Jeannette U. Smit Nolen e Maria Luisa Ferrer Dias estudam os materiais. O catálogo é precedido por um extenso comentário no qual se classificam tipológicamente os achados, se sugerem paralelos e se apontam cronologias. A cronologia geral da necrópole é fundamentada na secção II da parte II do artigo.

A Roman cremation necropolis of the second half I to beginning II c. A.D. is here presented. It was located in the large farm of Santo André near Montargil in the central part of Portugal. In the first part of the article João Rosa Viegas presents the methodology used in the excavation and establishes a typology for the many graves encountered. Jeannette U. Smit Nolen and Maria Luisa Ferrer Dias present a study of the finds in the second part. The catalogue is preceeded by an extensive study and classification of the pièces while parallels and chronologies are suggested. The chronology of the necropolis in general is explored and documented in section II of part II.
