Title: Algumas peças de «terra sigillata»: na secção arqueológica do Paço Ducal de Vila Viçosa
Authors: Alarcão, A. Moutinho de
Issue Date: 1961
Publisher: Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra
Abstract: The author discusses eighteen «Samian» vessels from three cemeteries uncovered some years ago, South of the Tagus. Five or six vessels (nos 2-5, no 12 and no 14) were imported from Gaulish centres but the remaining ones are probably all of them local products. Attention is drawn to those potter’s stamps including EX. before OF. as they seem to confirm Comfort’s suggestion (See A.J.A., 57, 1953 and Conim- briga, vol. 1, 1959, p. 3) that it may be an Iberian feature; in fact the vessels here published with such stamps (nos 6-8- and 11) must be considered as products of Iberian workshops on the grounds of details of shape, clay, surface and general appearance. Stamps nos 4, 11, 12 and 15 have never been published as far as we know.
