“Arquivos políticos” e história do século XX

Abstract

O texto tem um carácter coloquial, pois teve como base uma comunicação oral apresentada nos I Encontros de Alcobaça de Sociedade de Informação dedicado ao tema “Os Arquivos Políticos”. O autor, que decidiu publicar o texto neste volume, tendo em conta o papel que os homenageados desempenharam na pesquisa em diversos arquivos nacionais e estrangeiros, procurou mostrar o sentido polissémico do termo “arquivo” e o sentido equívoco da expressão “arquivos políticos”, reflectindo sobre a importância da organização dos arquivos - de certos arquivos, naturalmente, verificando e lamentando a inacessibilidade de alguns - para a história do século XX.

Maintaining some of the features of its original oral presentation, this essay reproduces a lecture given in a scientific meeting held in Alcobaça (/ Encontros de Alcobaça de Sociedade de Informação), on the general subject of “Political Archives”. By publishing it in this volume dedicated to paying homage to Luis Ferrand de Almeida and Antonio de Oliveira, the author wishes to recognize the role they have played as fine researchers in national and foreign archives. He tries to show the various meanings of the word ‘archive’ as well as the ambiguity of the expression ‘political archives’, and gives some thought to the importance of their organization - at least of some of them, as others are regrettably out of reach - to the making of history of the 20th century.
