As alianças matrimoniais solidificá-lo-ão.
Having come from France to the Iberian Peninsula in the company of Conde D. Henrique, Rabaldo settled in Portugal, where he married and brought about a numerous offspring, prodigally multiplied by his sons. The support he provided to Conde D. Henrique and, afterwards, to Afonso Henriques in the fight against his mother, as well as in the frontier war, will favour the seizure of a remarkable, political, economical, and social power. Alliances through marriage will strengthen it. Nevertheless, the same frontier war (causing death and extreme expenses), will force him to run into debt and to new marriages that caused a twofold succession to his inheritance: this will bring about an increasing splitting of the patrimony of his family to the benefit of the Monastery of Santa Cruz in Coimbra, where, along with the family's remains, most of its properties, by means of sales and endowments, will be gathered again.eng
