Aspectos da vida de Santa Maria da Alcáçova de Santarém, na Idade Média

Abstract

Neste estudo pretende-se dar a conhecer alguns dos aspectos mais importantes da existência da igreja de Santa Maria da Alcáçova de Santarém, na Idade Média. Das mais antigas dessa cidade conquistada aos muçulmanos em 1147, pelo primeiro rei de Portugal, a sua rápida passagem a Colegiada leva-nos a estudar a sua organização interna, nas suas dignidades e no acesso a prebendas na instituição; nos seus bens e na sua administração; nas suas relações com o poder régio (de D. Afonso Henriques a D. Fernando) e com o poder eclesiástico (bispo de Lisboa e Santa Sé). Por último, analisa-se a forma como extrapolou o âmbito local e se projectou na sociedade medieval portuguesa.

In this essay I will make known some of the most important aspects of the existence of the church of Santa Maria da Alcáçova (Santarém) in the Middle Ages. Being one of the most ancient in that town - conquered to the Muslims in 1147 by the first king of Portugal - its quick transformation into a collegiate church invites us to study its internal organization: the dignities and the admission to benefices within the institution; the assets and the way they were administrated; the relationship with the royal power (from D. Afonso Henriques to D. Fernando) as well as with the ecclesiastical power (the bishop of Lisbon and the Holy See). Finally, I will analyse how this collegiate church went beyond its local boundaries, reaching the whole of medieval Portuguese society.
