Empréstimos e penhores de uma confraria de Goa no século XVIII

Abstract

Numa breve síntese são abordados os diversos tipos de confrarias existentes em Goa, as suas actividades e funções e, muito resumidamente, o seu percurso ao longo dos séculos, até 1923, altura em que os seus bens ficam Sob a tutela do Estado. Mas o essencial deste artigo é o estudo da confraria de Nossa Senhora do Livramento e do Senhor Jesus de Daugim, sobretudo na sua actividade mutualista, a partir do registo dos empréstimos feitos ao longo de cerca de trinta anos. Para além de valores, juros e penhoras, são também identificados os credores que ao longo desse período usufruíram do crédito desta confraria.

Several types of brotherhoods in Goa, their activities and functions and their trajectory through the centuries until 1923 when their assets were under the custody of the state, will be analysed in a brief synthesis. But the main topic of this article is the study of the brotherhood of Nossa Senhora do Livramento e do Senhor Jesus in Daugim, mainly its mutualist activity, from the register of the loans made along more or less thirty years. Besides the values, interests and seizures, the creditors who, all through this period, have benefited from the credit of this brotherhood, will also be identified.
