Arco-íris Liberal

Abstract

O dia 24 de agosto de 1820 marcou o início da contemporaneidade política em Portugal. Mantendo-se a dinastia de Bragança, pretendia-se que os pressupostos teóricos que até então haviam caracterizado a soberania régia, fossem substituídos por outros fundamentando a soberania da nação. A reação foi imediata. Embora todos se afirmassem liberais, alguns punham reservas a certos princípios do liberalismo e propunham soluções políticas diversas. Pretendemos neste artigo analisar alguns dos autores destes modos de pensar e por isso o denominámos «Arco-Íris Liberal».

Portuguese political contemporaneity arose on 24th August 1820. By keeping the Bragança dinasty, it was expected that the theoretical assumptions defining the King’s sovereignty would be replaced by those implying the nation’s sovereignty. Reaction was immediate. Everyone claimed to be liberal, but some felt reservations concerning certain principles of liberalism and proposed different political solutions. We intend to analyse authors of various opinions and therefore we named our article «Liberal Rainbow».
