Liberalismo y Cultura Política Liberal en la España del Siglo XIX

Abstract

El artículo analiza los componentes ideológicos del liberalismo y su difusión en el siglo XIX. Contempla las características del primer liberalismo español, sus paralelismos con los liberalismos europeos, sus raíces ilustradas, y el desarrollo de la nueva cultura liberal surgida de la Constitución de 1812. El liberalismo español se transformó y evolucionó a lo largo del siglo XIX, reformulándose como posrevolucionario, moderado, progresista, reformista y democrático. El doceañismo gaditano, al ser un liberalismo de corte radical y abierto, ejerció una atracción en los demócratas y republicanos españoles del siglo XIX. Tras el Sexenio revolucionario (1868-1873), el liberalismo democrático encontró fuertes obstáculos para su desarrollo.

This article analyzes the ideological components of liberalism and its dissemination in the 19th century. It contemplates the characteristics of the first Spanish liberalism, its paralelisms with the European liberalism, its enlinghtened roots, and the development of the new culture that emerged from the Constitution of 1812. Spanish liberalism was transformed and progressed throughout the 19th century, reformulating itself as post-revolutionary, moderate, progressive, reformist and democratic ideology. The Cadiz doceanism, being a radical and open liberalism, exercised an attraction in the Spanish democrats and republicans of the XIX century. After the revolutionary emergence of the «Gloriosa» (1868-1873), democratic liberalism found strong obstacles to its developement.
