O Automóvel Touring Club de Angola e o automobilismo ao serviço do império: (1961‑1974)

Abstract

This article intends to analyse the relation of the Automobile Touring Club of Angola (ATCA) with the colonial war begun in Angola in 1961 and its position in relation to it, questioning the links between tourism, motorsports and war. It is our intention to verify how, through the activities to which it is dedicated, the ATCA develops a discourse and an action in favour of the maintenance of the empire. We intend to systematize the form of concretization of this project of invalidation of war, by analysing two aspects: on one hand, the tones of the speech and what is reported in its magazine, on the other, the activities it develops. The ATCA magazine will be our primary source.

Este artigo pretende analisar a relação do Automóvel Touring Club de Angola (ATCA) com a guerra colonial iniciada em Angola em 1961 e o seu posicionamento em relação à mesma, questionando as ligações entre turismo, automobilismo e guerra. É nosso intuito aferir como, através das atividades a que se dedica, o ATCA desenvolve um discurso e uma ação em favor da manutenção do império. Pretendemos fazer uma sistematização da forma de concretização desse projecto de invalidação da guerra, através da análise de dois aspetos: por um lado, os tons do discurso e o que é noticiado na sua revista, por outro, as atividades que desenvolve. A revista do ATCA será, assim, a fonte primordial.
